In Attendorn, an industrial city in the Olpe district, an open-air parking deck required renovation. This parking deck also serves as the ceiling structure of a two-story underground garage. Due to the significance of this structure, a minimally invasive method for renovation was chosen, and the chloride-contaminated concrete was left in place.
Corrosion protection solution
The renovation project of the open-air parking deck in Attendorn was challenging because the structure directly served as the ceiling structure of an underground garage and therefore could not be removed extensively. The combination of the MC-KKS/B system by MC-Bauchemie with the expertise of GRILLO-Werke AG allowed for comprehensive renovation without the need to remove the chloride-contaminated concrete.
Throughout the entire project, the participants underwent thorough training in cathodic corrosion protection techniques. In particular, the thermal spraying of zinc, a key component of the renovation, was closely monitored. The introduction of a monitoring system ensured constant monitoring and adjustment of corrosion protection. This multidisciplinary approach provided a robust, sustainable, and effective corrosion protection for the parking deck.
