ĂKOTEC Energiemanagement GmbH creates product carbon footprints for GRILLO’s chemical products. With a focus on transparency and precision, five plants were balanced and footprints were created for 21 chemical products. The successful certification according to three standards marks a significant step towards our sustainability goals.
Achieving our sustainability goals and the availability of sustainable products for our customers is our top priority! Together with ĂKOTEC Energiemanagement GmbH, we have now taken another major step towards achieving our sustainability target: the balancing of five plants at the Frankfurt and Duisburg sites and the creation of product carbon footprints for 21 chemical products. The products were then successfully certified according to three standards (ISO 14067, Greenhouse Gas Protocol and TfS standard).
How did we approach the project together with Ăkotec?
The product carbon footprint at GRILLO was determined through a comprehensive analysis of the chemical plants along the entire process chain. Particular attention was paid to the subdivision into process steps in order to ensure that allocation is avoided as precisely as possible. First of all, detailed process flow charts were created in order to present the processes transparently. All qualitative and quantitative inputs and outputs – both material and energy flows – were then recorded for a financial year. The relevant emission factors were taken into account in order to enable a precise estimate of the carbon footprint. Special attention was also paid to process emissions from chemical transformations to ensure that all relevant sources of greenhouse gases were recorded.
The product carbon footprints bring numerous advantages, such as the identification of savings measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions or the improvement of transparency towards customers.
