B. Braun Melsungen parking garage

In Melsungen, a town in North Hesse, the five-story B. Braun Melsungen parking garage was in need of extensive renovation. Particularly in the four lower levels of the building, constructed in a steel-skeleton-concrete design, the structural integrity was significantly compromised to the point where the removal of chloride-contaminated concrete was considered.

Corrosion protection solution

The renovation of the parking garage in Melsungen presented a unique challenge due to the advanced damage to the reinforced concrete. The solution came in the form of the innovative MC-KKS/B system by MC-Bauchemie and GRILLO-Werke AG. This cathodic corrosion protection system allowed for comprehensive rehabilitation without the need for extensive concrete removal, thereby avoiding associated inconveniences such as noise and dust.

Throughout the entire project, the participants underwent thorough training in cathodic corrosion protection techniques. In particular, the thermal spraying of zinc, a key component of the renovation, was closely monitored. The introduction of a monitoring system ensured constant monitoring and adjustment of corrosion protection. This multidisciplinary approach provided a robust, sustainable, and effective corrosion protection for the parking deck.
