B. Braun Melsungen parking garage
In Melsungen, a town in North Hesse, the five-story B. Braun Melsungen parking garage was in need of extensive renovation. Particularly in the four lower levels of the building, constructed in a steel-skeleton-concrete design, the structural integrity was significantly compromised to the point where the removal of chloride-contaminated concrete was considered.
Corrosion protection solution
The renovation of the parking garage in Melsungen presented a unique challenge due to the advanced damage to the reinforced concrete. The solution came in the form of the innovative MC-KKS/B system by MC-Bauchemie and GRILLO-Werke AG. This cathodic corrosion protection system allowed for comprehensive rehabilitation without the need for extensive concrete removal, thereby avoiding associated inconveniences such as noise and dust. During the renovation, which was organized in three phases, all employees and planners underwent comprehensive training in cathodic corrosion protection techniques. Preparatory work and thermal spraying of zinc were closely monitored, with the installation of 20 monitoring fields ensuring that corrosion protection could be constantly checked and adjusted. This holistic approach resulted in an effective, long-lasting, and sustainable corrosion protection for the entire parking garage.
