Why batteries will soon come out of the printer
GRILLO is part of a project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research that is working on a low-cost and scalable zinc-air battery to store renewable energy.
Unlike lead-acid batteries used so far, zinc-air batteries are not only cheaper, but also more flexible to handle and scalable. A low-cost printing technology was developed in collaboration with other research teams to investigate new materials for zinc and oxygen electrodes. The development of this innovative electricity storage solution can significantly simplify and improve the use of renewable energies for households and entire apartment blocks.
