GRILLO-Werke AG’s Long-Term Viability Secured
The economic environment and the specific challenges facing energy-intensive companies have placed a significant strain on GRILLO-Werke AG and its subsidiaries in recent years. On top of these challenges, there was a major fire at GRILLO’s headquarters in Duisburg in 2024.
Against this backdrop, the Executive Board decided last year to implement a comprehensive realignment to position the family-owned company GRILLO on a sustainable, stable and future-proof footing. The transformation rests on three pillars:
- Investments of more than €100 million in the future core businesses of sulfur and zinc chemistry as well as zinc-based resource protection, thereby specifically strengthening the Duisburg, Frankfurt and Goslar locations
- Portfolio streamlining through the sale of METRA in England and RHEINZINK in Datteln to focus resources on core activities
- Refinancing at the GRILLO-Werke AG holding company level, involving a new investor to sustainably stabilize the financing structure
The investor has repaid the promissory note lenders using subordinated financing and, together with the existing syndicate banks, is thereby ensuring the operational transformation by providing sustainable financial backing for the next three to five years, while also creating room for growth in the core business areas.
Together with the consistent implementation of the strategic transformation, this forms the foundation for GRILLO’s long-term sustainability.
