Pumping tests on the Willy-Brandt-Ring provide important findings
GRILLO uses pumping tests to check how permeable the soil is for the construction of a well in order to prevent contaminated groundwater from leaving the factory premises.
In April 2025, pumping tests were carried out at six newly constructed groundwater measuring points. Groundwater is extracted via a pump in order to observe how quickly and to what extent the groundwater level changes. These tests help to find out how permeable the ground is and whether it is suitable for the construction of a well that can be used to collect contaminated water.
Water samples were also taken during the test, which are currently being analyzed in a specialist laboratory for possible pollutants such as cadmium. The work was supervised by an independent expert. The data collected is an important step towards a long-term solution: GRILLO’s aim is to prevent contaminated groundwater from leaving the factory premises – and to provide information as transparently as possible.
