What is sodium pyrosulphite?

Sodium pyrosulphite is also referred to as sodium disulphite or sodium metabisulphite. It is a white, crystalline powder.

Sodium metabisulphite is used in the following areas:
• Food preservative (fruit, seafood)
• Detoxification of waste water containing cyanide
• Reducing agent (e.g. chlorine, dichromates)
