Zinc as a key to the future of energy storage

At the 2nd Zinc Battery Workshop at West Virginia University, it became clear how dynamically the field of zinc-based battery technologies is developing. GRILLO supported the event as a sponsor and took part on site in discussions with leading experts from research, industry and policy.

 

Zinc-based battery technologies are increasingly coming into focus when it comes to safe, cost-efficient and sustainable energy storage solutions. During the workshop, key developments were discussed – from advances in electrochemistry to the scaling of technologies for long-duration energy storage.

An important impulse came from the Zinc Battery Initiative (ZBI) of the International Zinc Association. In addition to technological progress, the focus was also on collaboration between science and industry, as well as the question of how zinc-based battery systems can contribute to the global energy transition.
