Grevenhof lock bridge
The Grevenhof lock bridge in Hamburg, managed by the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA), underwent a successful renovation in 2022. In collaboration with GRILLO, an innovative corrosion protection solution was implemented for the bridge.
Zinc thermal spraying of steel bridges
In the initial discussions between the Hamburg Port Authority (HPA) and GRILLO, the effectiveness of pure zinc thermal spraying with GRILLO G-Z850/851 was recognized in comparison to conventional paint coatings. As part of the renovation of the Grevenhof lock bridge, the existing paint coating was expertly removed, followed by proper substrate preparation in accordance with standards. Subsequently, a 200 µm thick layer of GRILLO G-Z850/851 was applied using wire arc spraying.
Especially in terms of sustainability, the HPA noted that the Mono Thermal Sprayed Zinc (MTZ) process is highly interesting for the renovation of existing bridges. For this reason, the HPA plans to renovate six more bridges using thermal zinc spraying in the coming years. The spraying personnel have been qualified according to the standards of the Welding Technology Testing Institute (SLV) and received practical training from GRILLO.
